Pierre Klossowski was a French writer and painter of Polish origin, who was born in Paris in 1905 and died there in 2001. An enigmatic intellectual, builder of simulacra, incarnation of a contemporary “demon”, he initially occupied himself with writing and later decided to approach the drawing and painting. He intended to translate into the painting the images that writing had evoked as a vision, making it a simulacrum of another simulacrum. He undertook theological studies in a Dominican convent, then converted to Lutheranism, which he later renounced. Insistent temptations of demonism and asceticism shine through in his narrative works. The representation that “presides” over the literary works therefore dominates the transgressive tableaux vivants which, in a dimension suspended between demonism and moralism, Klossowski began drawing in 1953 on canvas or paper, first in graphite, then, from 1972, in colored crayons , preciously chiseled in multiple lines, light and sinuous.
