Malta Biennial 2026

Wilfredo Prieto will present “Democracy is discussed on the golf course” at Malta Biennial 2026. The intervention places several golf flags in the Piazza d’Armi at Fort St Elmo in Valletta. The work uses a symbol of elite and exclusivity as an ode to social participation in democratic processes. It stands in public space as a hymn to equality and the development of new systems that decentralize the patterns of a banal, consumerist society. The imposition of false political and social models, the distribution of wealth, and cultural elitism disperses the hierarchy of unequal social structures and the manipulation of power.
