Giulio Paolini is part of the group exhibition “Vita minore. San Francesco e la santità dell’arte contemporanea” at Palazzo Collicola in Spoleto (PG). The project, curated by Gianni and Giuseppe Garrera, offers a contemporary interpretation of the figure of San Francesco d’Assisi. Drawing on the idea of ‘minority’ as a defiance of social norms and a refusal of its principles to ‘make oneself lesser’ in service to others, the exhibition evokes St. Francis’s fundamental values. It moves beyond traditional iconography, using contemporary art as an ‘exemplum’ across several themed sections: the exclusivity of the Gospel; the total rejection of wealth; the dismantling of language as a power structure; and a surrender to the natural world that leads to the fraternal glory of death. Several contemporary artists offer visitors original and evocative interpretations of Franciscan thought, transforming Palazzo Collicola into a space where history dialogues with the present.
